Ahead of the National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting of the All Progressives Congress billed to hold tomorrow, President Muhammadu Buhari yesterday night played host to members of the party caucus at the presidential villa.
Although the agenda of the meeting was not disclosed to journalists, there were indications the meeting between the president and members of APC caucus may not be unconnected with deliberation on the date and venue of the national convention of the party where the presidential candidate of the party would be decided.
It was gathered that the caucus met to also agree on what method to adopt for the conduct of the convention.
There have been controversies on whether the party should adopt direct or delegate congress system at the convention.
The meeting last night, it was learnt, was also to decide whether the congress would be held in Lagos or Abuja.
The meeting, which started exactly by 8:30pm, had in attendance critical stakeholders of the ruling party.
But conspicuously absent from the meeting was the Speaker House of Representatives, Yakubu Dogara who is the highest ranking member of the APC in the National Assembly following the defection of Senate President Bukola Saraki to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
Former governor of Delta state, Emmanuel Uduaghan, who is yet to publicly declare for the party was also at the meeting.
Others at the meeting include national leader of the APC, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu; Chief Bisi Akande, Secretary to Government of the Federation (SGF), Boss Mustapha and national chairman of APC, Adams Oshiomhole.
The serving state governors on the platform of the party at the meeting were those of Borno, Jigawa, Niger, Plateau, Kogi, Adamawa, Ondo, Kano, Ogun, Oyo, Katsina, Osun, Yobe, Nasarawa, Kebbi, Imo and Lagos.
Also at the meeting were chairman of LEADERSHIP Group Limited, Sam Nda-Isaiah; Segun Oni; House Leader, Femi Gbajabiamila; former Ebonyi State governor, Martin Elechi, former Borno State governor, Ali-Modu Sheriff, former Lagos State governor, Buba Marwa; Lawrence Onoja; Jim Nwobodo and Senator Kabiru Gaya.
Others are former APC national chairman, John Odigie-Oyegun; former Enugu State governor, Sullivan Chime; former Edo State governor, Osahamehen Osunbor and former Bayelsa State governor, Timipre Silva.
Also in attendance were former Senate President Ken Nnamani; former Ekiti State governor, Niyi Adebayo; former Akwa Ibom State governor, Senator Goodwill Akpabio; Chief Don Etiebet and Minister of Information, Lai Mohammed.
