2019: Makurdi Women Pledge Support For Ortom’s Re-election

The women of Fiidi Ward in Makurdi local government area of Benue State have pledged total support for governor Samuel Ortom and his re-election bid.
The group which is called ‘Elegant Women’ made known its decision today in Ayihe community of Fiidi Ward when they met with the Governor’s chief press secretary, Terver Akase.
Spokesperson for the group, Mrs Ann Ityavkase said Governor Ortom has demonstrated uncommon leadership qualities in the face of daunting economic and security challenges in the past three years. “If the governor does not have the interest of his people at heart he would have betrayed their trust as a result of the ongoing persecution and intimidation Governor Ortom has encountered in the hands of enemies of the state.

The women commended the governor for dumping the All Progressives Congress (APC) which they said had failed to protect the interest of Benue people. “Majority of Benue people were willing to follow Governor Ortom to any political party when he was leaving the APC.” The group promised to mobilise other women in Makurdi and the rest of 22 local government areas to ensure the victory of Governor Ortom at next year’s election.  Responding, the chief press secretary thanked the women for the support shown his principal, saying the gesture would encourage the governor to do more for the state.
Mr Akase assured them that Governor Ortom would not relent in his commitment to providing the quality of leadership Benue people want. He said women would remain strategic in all policies and programmes of the Ortom administration as already seen in the high number of political offices currently occupied by women in the state.
