General Secretary of the Nigeria Football Federation, Dr. Mohammed Sanusi has said that the reason NFF chose Seychelles as the camp for the Super Eagles was due to the lingering crisis at the leadership of the NFF as it affected their planning ahead of the crucial game. According to Sanusi, the crisis affected NFF’s ability to invite the coach and draw out plans ahead of the second group game against Seychelles on 9th August 2018. He argued that Nigeria’s preparation has always been ahead of time but the crisis was responsible for the delay. He added that despite the delay, the federation is trying everything to prepare the team ahead of the crucial game. “We always try to prepare the team within the limited time we have, of course, our preparation has always been ahead of time but there was serious lingering crisis at the NFF that made that aspect of preparation to be a little bit delayed but now that we are back on track, we are fully prepared for the team.

“As we all know that there is no time, so, the players will move directly to Seychelles. The coach has to wait before the crisis was resolved, and when it was resolved he came down to the country to confirm where our next match after Seychelles will be played and also to announce his team list. After releasing the list, there should be procedure on invitation of the players on the list to their clubs to give them time to play for their country.” “That will also take a little time, if you ask them to come to Nigeria before flying them to Seychelles that will consume another time, which was why we decided and asked them to fly directly to Seychelles to settle in time and also acclimatize.”
The match will be played at the Victoria stadium on 9th September 2018. Both teams need the maximum of three points as Nigeria lost 2-0 at home to South Africa while Seychelles also lost to 3-0 Libya in their respective first match.
