Youths on the platform of the #NotTooYoungToRun Movement, have expressed concern over the cost of nomination forms by various political parties, stating that it presents a major impediment to youth participation in politics.
Convener and strategy team member of the movement, Samson Itodo and Hamzat Lawal respectively, expressed the concern while briefing the media in Abuja, yesterday.
LEADERSHIP recalls that the movement had engaged political parties recently, with the demands that political parties reserve party tickets for young men and women with character, capacity and competence and that political parties adopt open transparent and direct primaries in the candidate selection process for the 2019 elections.
They further called on political parties to prescribe and enforce spending limits for party nomination fees and charges.
Giving a breakdown of their demands, the movement demanded that “House of Assembly aspirants nomination forms should cost N200,000, House of Representatives aspirants N400,000, Senatorial aspirant N600,000, Governorship aspirant N1million and Presidential aspirants N2million.”
