Barely 24 hours after the national leadership of the All Progressive Congress (APC) resolved to adopt indirect primaries in nominating gubernatorial aspirants across the country, a governorship aspirant under the APC in Gombe state, Khamisu Ahmed Mailantarki, said he would accept the out come of the party primary in the state, “whichever way it goes.”
Mailantarki who made the declaration on Friday in an interview with newsmen, shortly after returning from his campaign tour across the 114 wards in the state said, “I am campaigning enough, I am doing whatever that is necessary in preparation for the election; from our tour I know my people love me…but I will leave my fate to God,” Mailantarki said.
Speaking on his expectation of the party primaries, he said, they have held series of meeting with the party leadership and they have assured them of a free, fair and transparent primaries as such he will be ready to keep his personal interest aside and inject his resources to ensure the victory of the party in the state.
“As far as I am concerned, if the primaries are free, fair and transparent, and I fairly lose out without any external influence tailored towards picking a choice person, as a loyal party man I will accept the result and support whosoever emerge for APC to establish a government in the state.”
Commenting on the quality expected of the person that can wrestle power from the PDP in the state, he said: “There are so many aspirants in the field and as I have always said, it is nice and proper for everybody to aspire. The most important thing is that who is that person that can deliver the election to the party? Who is that person that can make the election easier for the party to claim the seat of governance in this state?” He asked
He further asked that “Who is that person that the electorate will feel more comfortable with electing him to govern the state? Who is that person that will best represent us against the opposing parties knowing that one of the major parties that we are going to fight against is the incumbent party at the state. So, saying whether I think I will be the favourite, I honestly know that I have all it takes to win the primaries.”
Mailantarki who pride himself as the most consistent and loyal politician among the aspirants said it is proper for the party to actually look at everybody’s records and ensure that whoever must emerge in APC must be a loyal and committed party member.
“Considering my age, experience, achievements as a former member of the house of representative and also my effort in building the party in the state, I think I deserve to be the party flag bearer.” He said.
