14 Die In Kogi Accident

In what seems to be a re-enactment of ugly accidents in the last four months of the year, 14 persons were killed in a ghastly motor accident on Itobe-Anyigba highway, yesterday.

It was a hectic moment for the men of Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC) who spent several hours to evacuate and clear the road for motorists prevented from passing across either sides of the road.

The accident, a source told LEADERSHIP Sunday, was as a result of overtaking at the steep hill at Ajegwu in Ofu Local government area of Kogi State.

The source further revealed that two 18-seater buses, from opposite directions, with one overtaking a trailer, had a head on collision at that point where visibility was poor due to the hill.

Musa Adama said he was just returning from Idah, trying to cross over to his house in the community when he heard a loud sound from the two buses, which killed 14 people with others experiencing varying degrees of injuries.

Confirming the accident, the police public relations officer (PPRO), ASP William Aya, said a combined team of men from FRSC and police on patrol, helped in evacuating the dead, wounded to the hospital and debris of the vehicles from the road.
