Special Adviser to the President on Social Investment Programme, Hajiya Maryam Uwais, has commended Benue state governor, Samuel Ortom for his sustained support which has led to the successful implementation of various schemes under the programme in the state.

Hajiya Uwais gave the commendation when she paid a courtesy visit to the Governor at Government House, Makurdi.

She said Benue is one of the prime states for the Social Investment Programme, stressing that the decision of Governor Ortom to reposition the Benue state office of the programme was a step in the right direction.

The Special Adviser to the President described as impressive, the beehive of activities at the Social Investment Programme in the state under the new leadership.

While lamenting the diversion of funds meant for the Home Grown School Feeding Programme by the Benue Office of the programme, Hajiya Uwuais lamented that right from the beginning of the school feeding programme in the state, the number of those recruited were exaggerated.

“We also have over 900 thousand cooks in Benue, but we are trying to reorganise it because we have found a lot of anomalies, in terms of the number of pupils and the number of cooks”.

Responding, Governor Samuel Ortom promised his continued support for the Social Investment Programme, describing it as an investment into the future of Benue children.

The Governor pointed out that the Home Grown School Feeding, HGSF Programme in particular has positively impacted on the economy of the state.
