… As Zainab Balogun Plays Lead Role As Villiain
In recent times when Nollywood movies made for the cinemas are beginning to command great attention and make box office hit, SYLVIA, a potential box office hit has been generating rave reviews and discussions among movie buffs.
The thriller which borders on romance, betrayal; fantasy and paranormal is TRINO Motion Picture’s debut movie production.
Written by Vanessa Kanu and directed by the prolific Daniel Oriahi, the movie stars Zainab Balogun as the lead actress in the role of SYLVIA, a girl who possesses some mystic powers and fell in love with his childhood friend; Richard Okezie played by the black and handsome, Chris Attoh. Other casts are Ijeoma Grace Agu, Ini Dima Okojie, Udoka Onyeka, Lolo 1, Lord Frank, Bolaji Ogunmola and others.
The movie which gulped over fifty million naira and runs for a 104 minutes, explores the cause and effect of relationships, mental health and the real versus the surreal world, as it tells the story of Richard Okezie, who decides to leave Sylvia, his lifelong imaginary friend and lover, for Gbemi an actual human being.
Daniel Oriahi, the movie director stated at the press screening held last Thursday, that shooting Sylvia demanded his thinking outside the box in order to make a non-stereotypical movie reflecting themes of romance, revenge, betrayal, mystic, paranormal.
“I have always been inspired by the veteran, Roman Polaski who has directed several hit movies. As a creative person, I am very drawn to the European cinemas and Science Fiction (Sci-fi) genre which keeps the oil of moviemaking running; and some of these movies are just unexplainable and we tried to toe the same line shooting Sylvia. Nollywood is seen by the western media as spiritually themed. So we expect Sylvia to be liked and appreciated by our viewers both home and abroad. Vanessa Kanu, the writer did a good job,” says Mr Oriahi.
“Sylvia,” which had its world premiere at the 2018 Nollywood Week, Paris in May will be distributed by TRINO Motion Pictures, and will open in cinemas on September 21, 2018.
