A soldier and 9 other people were killed by heavy flood as a result of incessant rainfall in Kebbi State.
The remains of five of the victims were recovered after the heavy downpour at Kanya in Danko Wasagu and Mahuta in Fakai local government area of the state.
The soldier died while trying to rescue a woman in the flood which washed them away at Uwashi village. Both the soldier and the woman according to locals died in the flood.
The village head of Kanya, Alhaji Isah Dan Hassan told governor Abubakar Atiku Bagudu during his visit to some of the affected areas that many of the houses, properties, livestock and farmlands were destroyed by the flood.
He urged government to construct emergency bridge and canoes for the immediate evacuation of the people and properties in the areas.
During the visit Bagudu also made a stop over at Waje bridge where a young man was reported to have jumped to his death from the bridge.
Bagudu at the scene of the disaster in Kanya said he learnt of the flood incidents in Fakai and Danko Wasagu while on official engagement in Abuja but came to see the level of destruction done by the flood.
The chairman of Fakai local government area, Musa Rabiu Jarma said the flood incident in his area has caused the bridge linking the town to breakdown and over 48 houses have been destroyed.
