Family of a motorcyclist, Yakubu Aziz, who was crushed to death by an officer of the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) in Akure, Ondo State has demanded for justice.
Kehinde Aziz, the elder brother to Yakubu who spoke to journalists on behalf of the family yesterday in Akure condemned his brutal death.
He said that the corpse of Yakubu who is also into bricklaying was still dumped at the morgue of the State General Hospital in Akure.
“We are demanding for the burial of my younger brother because his death is very painful to us.
“We also ask that justice must be served on whoever caused his death because we are the only two boys in the hands of our mother”.
The elder brother narrated how late Yakubu was crushed and died last week Tuesday as a result the fatal motor accident.
“I was in the house at the Isolo area when one of our younger ones ran in and said a car has hit Yakubu and he was involved in an accident.
“Immediately, I rushed down to the scene but they had already moved him to the state hospital and I went there to see him”.
He explained that sympathizers at the scene confirmed that an officer with the NSCDC who was traveling for an exam knocked down the late Yakubu on his bike.
According to him, the family of the deceased was responsible for his treatment before he finally gave up his last breath.
He said Governor Rotimi Akeredolu, who heard about the accident had made provision for the burial of the deceased but things got bad on the way to the burial ground.
“The government made payment for the casket and even got a parcel of land around Igbatoro area where we could bury my younger brother.
“But on our way to bury his corpse another thing happened as there was pandemonium on the road that led to the NSCDC office.
“We heard loud noise of gun shots and people started running for their lives. Before we knew it, a woman in the hilux van, which was conveying the corpse of Yakubu, was hit by the bullet from the gunshots and died and this sparked a heavy protest.
“This woman that was killed worked with my brother in the bricklaying business. She always serves sands.
“After the whole scenario played out they dumped the corpse at the hospital. I called on the CSO but he told me that they are investigating”.
Spokesman of the Ondo State Police Command, Femi Joseph, said the NSCDC officer who caused the accident is currently in custody and might be charged to court soon.
Mr. Joseph, however, added that the NSCDC was frustrating the on going investigations to the case of the woman who was shot dead while conveying the corpse of Yakubu for burial.
