Osun Guber: Keep Promise Of Free, Fair Polls, Saraki Urges PMB

Ahead of the Osun State governorship election, Senate President, Bukola Saraki, yesterday said that he hopes that President Muhammadu Buhari would keep to the promise he made to foreign leaders on ensuring free and fair polls in the country.

The Senate President who stated this during the inauguration of the party’s 85 member campaign council for the Osun State September 22, gubernatorial election, also stated that the All Progressives Congress (APC) is no longer popular in the state.

Saraki said, “Let me on behalf of the entire committee members appreciate the leadership of the party for seeing us worthy of the task. We promised to ensure the PDP would win the Osun election. The election is important because PDP has lost two governorship elections in the South West, Ekiti and Ondo. We must win Osun to prove that Osun is the home ground of the PDP.

“The APC is already no more popular in Osun. I hope that the President Muhammad Buhari will live up to his promise to world leaders, that elections will be free and fair in Nigeria.”

Saraki also berated what he called the crude voting buying methods and use of brutal force by security agencies during the Ekiti State governorship election.

He urged the PDP to capitalise on the disunity in other parties, saying Osun election is crucial before 2019 general elections. The Senate President added that the caliber of the members of the committee shows the seriousness of the party to reclaim the state.

On his part, the national chairman of the PDP, Prince Uche Secondus, has alleged that corrupt persons are mobilising and ganging up to return  APC in 2019.

Secondus further alleged that the APC has made itself a safe haven for corrupt persons and they are converging there not only to get relief but to help install them come 2019 for more protection.

The national chairman who said that the worst form of corruption is rigging of election and buying of votes warned that the PDP would not tolerate the charade that happened in Ekiti State in July to repeat itself in Osun State.

“Enough is enough, PDP will not tolerate Osun being rigged like Ekiti, we have a popular candidate and the performance of the APC ruling government has been awful with months of salaries owned to workers.

“We are aware that the electoral commission that is supposed to operate as an unbiased umpire in the conduct of elections has suddenly made itself a parastatal of the federal government, conniving with APC and security agencies to exchange results.

“Even security agencies whose allegiance should be to the constitution and people of Nigeria have allowed itself to behave as if they are operatives of the ruling APC.

“We decided to set up this high powered committee to demonstrate the importance we attach to this election, all our Presidential aspirants and some state governors are members plus all other critical stakeholders from South West and other parts of the country.”

The national chairman implored lovers of democracy globally to show more than passing interest in the Osun State election because the APC is not disposed to conducting free and fair election.
