UNICEF Strengthens Pre-primary Education In Sokoto, Kebbi

The United Nations Children Development Fund (UNICEF) yesterday commenced a 2-Day workshop on strengthening pre-primary education in Nigeria, especially as it concerns Sokoto and Kebbi States.

The workshop whose aim was to amongst other issues inspire high level advocacy on the need for adequate attention in the Pre-primary education,  added that, the two states should scale up by making adequate provisions towards improving the scenario.

While commending the federal government for it’s Integrated Early Childhood  Development (ECD) policy,  UNICEF however listed some of the challanges confronting the policy to include weak coordination amonsgt relevance agencies, low awareness and understanding of the importance of ECD, as well as poor articulation and funding.

In a good will message at the workshop,  Sokoto officer-in-charge of UNICEF,  Mr Paul Mudzongo said children that participate in ECD tend to be more successful in late school.

He added that,  ECD children are equally more competent both socially, emotionally, show higher verbal, intellectual and have better physical development during early childhood than those who are not enrolled into such programme.
