The modelling industry in Nigeria and Africa at large is seeing a number of dynamic changes as it aims to compete with the international market. Nigeria models for a long time have graced various international red carpet events and exclusive fashion shows as headline models .
But with all the personal successes achieved by Nigerian models like Aisha Bello they still are finding it a bit difficult to gain the recognition they deserve locally and internationally. With the stigma of human trafficking, underpayment of models, sexual assault and a number of social ills, it has therefore become imperative to bring Nigerian models under one umbrella and fight for their rights.
Taking up the challenge is an organisation championed by an ex model turned business woman Aisha Bello.
Organisation for models in Nigeria aims to breach the gap and help protect Nigerian models in a positive light as well as protect our young women in the modelling industry from being taken advantage of by the industry. The organisation also aims to teach young women various life and business skills that would be beneficial to them after leaving the red carpet.
Education and empowerment of young Nigerian women is at the core of the organisations program over the next 2 years, says Aisha Bello.
According to Aisha, the establishment of “Organisation For Models In Nigeria” is necessary to cater to the growth of he industry.
“Organisation For Models In Nigeria was established to sanitised the modelling industry in Nigeria. We will be able to see to the general interests and support of all our models. There are so many challenges facing the industry from unjust treatments of models, low pay to even sexual abuse by models scouts and managers. The association’s goal is to bring all the models under one umbrella and put an end to it or atleast reduce it to the barest minimum possible. “, Aisha explains.
The Organisation For Models In Nigeria launched on Thursday, 30th of August, 2018 in Lagos and was graced by top industry experts.
