As the 2019 elections draw closer, a massive wave of defection is about to hit the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Gombe state, following the plan defection of Buhari Mohammed Dankwambo, the younger brother to Governor Ibrahim Hassan Dankwambo and Auwal Abdullahi Gafakan Akko, the Presidential coordinator of Senator Ahmed Makarfi in Gombe state to the rival, All Progressives Congress (APC).
LEADERSHIP gathered that the duo who enjoy massive support of the youths in their locality and around Gombe state, have concluded plans to move to the APC with thousands of their supporters.
The younger Dankwambo popularly known as BMD while confirming the development to newsmen in Gombe on Wednesday, said he has finalised all plans to defect to APC, he said what is delaying the public declaration is the insistence by some APC stakeholders that the event should be colorful since he is coming to the party with large number of supporters.
“We shall soon make our intention public as soon as we conclude plans with stakeholders of the APC,” he said.
LEADERSHIP reliably gathered that BMD, was very instrumental to the re-election of his elder brother in 2015, sources within the state capital said he spend a lot of resources in mobilizing the youths across the state to support Dankwambo, and no doubt his effort was widely visible.
Besides BMD, another political general that is moving to the APC in the state, is Auwal Abubakar, a renown educationist, political heavyweight in Akko local government area of the state and the coordinator of Makarfi presidential election in the state.
The former Secretary of PDP in Pindiga ward of the local government, Adamu Mamman, who is also following the Gafakan Akko to the APC says the exit of Auwal, a philanthropist and dogged politician and thousands of his supporters marks the end of PDP in Akko LGA of the state.
Speaking to LEADERSHIP, Mamman described the defector as a “renowned politician and a serving general of PDP” in the area.
He said that Auwal’s joining of the APC was a great loss and set back to the PDP and a big fish to the ruling APC which would boost the chances of APC in winning all elective positions in the area and the state at large.
“With the defection of Gafakan Akko to APC, it marks the end of PDP not only in Akko Local Government Area of the state but in Gombe state at large.” Maman said.
He said they have resolved to work with Auwal, in order to ensure the victory of APC come 2019 and beyond.
The Gafakan Akko, who earlier in the year rejected appointment to serve as special adviser to governor Dankwambo told our correspondent in a brief telephone chat that joining the APC would provide him the chance to contribute his quota to the development of his community, the state particular and the country at large.
According to him “I choose to join the APC due to the deceptive character of Governor Dankwambo and to ensure we form an APC government in the state come 2019.”
