The leadership of the Kogi State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has adopted indirect delegates primary as a method to vote in the forthcoming party’s primaries to field candidates for various elective positions in the 2019 general election. The resolution was unanimously reached by members of the party at the State Executive Council (SEC) meeting held yesterday in Government House, Lokoja.
Addressing party members, the state governor, Yahaya Bello, urged aspirants interested in standing for elective positions to go ahead and purchase their intent forms, saying the government does not have anointed candidates as widely presumed by members of the public.
Governor Bello who assured that the party will create a level playing ground for all aspirants to test their popularity, promised to work with whoever eventually emerges from whatever methodology agreed by leaders and members of the party on how candidates should emerge.
The governor said it is the responsibility of party executives to elect who will fly the flag of the party, saying APC will not shut its doors on popular candidates.
He noted: “I am the leader of APC in Kogi State. Everyone that is contesting elections is mine. I don’t have any anointed candidate. Anyone who is popular should go ahead to purchase forms and contest the primaries.
“We will ensure fairness and equity in order to make the process credible and acceptable to both the winners and the losers. That will strengthen our party.”
