Nasarawa APC Adopts Indirect Primaries

The ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in Nasarawa State, has adopted the indirect primaries to choose its candidates for the governorship and other positions. The decision of the party was made known in communique made available to journalists after the stakeholders meeting of the party, held at Government House Lafia, yesterday.

Those in attendance at the stakeholders meeting includes governor Tanko Almakura, his deputy, Silas Ali Agara, the speaker of the State Assembly, Balarabe Abdullahi, Members of the National and State Assemblies, the state working committee of the party, all the governorship aspirants and some selected critical stakeholders.

The party in a five point communique signed by its chairman, Phillip Tatari Shekwo and state secretary, Aliyu Bello, said the stakeholders exhaustively discussed the direct, indirect and consensus candidature for any elective position under the party as enshrined in its constitution, also as directed by the national executives of the party.

It said the decision was taken after due recognition of time and current political situation, saying conducting primaries by the direct method will be cumbersome and cost effective, with some security challenges.
“The members agreed that party primaries in the state should be conducted using the the indirect option as against the direct option.”
