Nasarawa Assembly Passes Youth Empowerment Bill



The Nasarawa State House of Assembly has passed into law “A bill for a law to make provision for the Establishment of Nasarawa State Agency for Youth Empowerment Scheme (NAYES), in order to tackle unemployment in the state.

The Speaker of the House, Ibrahim Balarabe Abdullahi, made this known in Lafia, yesterday during the House proceeding after the Majority Leader, Tanko Tunga (APC-Awe North) moved a motion for the passage of the bill into law in Lafia.

Abdullahi said that Gov. Tanko Al-Makura had submitted the bill to the House in order to give the organization a legal backing.

The speaker added that based on the law, the membership of the agency shall be appointed by the governor, which shall include General Manager, Secretary of the Agency and there shall be three directors as management of the agency.

“The aim of the law is to recruit, train and engage constructively both skilled and unskilled teaming youths for the purpose of public works, social and community development service in the state.
“To engage NAYES operatives in the areas of Traffic Management, Environmental Sanitation, Community Watch and Security Surveillance for early detection of potential security threats in their respective communities within the state.

“To collaborate with MDAs and Local Government Councils in the state towards ensuring effective utilization of the services of the NAYES operatives in their various areas of assignment or placement.
“Youths recruited under this scheme shall serve for a term of five years after they will be graduated,” he said.
