Lagos State Police command yesterday said they have nabbed two fake military personnel for allegedly hijacking a truck containing goods worth N13.2m at Epe Express way in Lagos and 10 others suspected cultists held in connection with killing of a police officer Sgt Collins Esiador, at Haruna Bus stop in Ifako Ijaiye Ogaba area of the state. LEADERSHIP learnt that the fake military personnel intercepted and diverted the lorry marked LSR 266 XW laden with goods on Sept. 2 at about 8pm .
The Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Imohimi Edgal who confirmed their arrests said, “On the aforementioned date, at about 8.00pm, a Sterling truck with registration number LSR-266-XW, laden with groundnut oil valued at N13,250.000.00 was hijacked by a five man gang of highway robbers at Epe expressway. “They stopped the Kano State bound truck close to Ijebu Ode and pushed the conductor and the driver out of the vehicle. “However, as the duo were trekking towards Epe-Lagos, they came across a policeman and narrated their ordeal to him. The policeman immediately contacted some of the police stations along the route taken by the robbers. “At about 10:30 p.m, policemen on stop and search duty saw the truck coming and intercepted it. In the process, two suspects were arrested. “During interrogation, they revealed that a fake soldier, a dismissed soldier and a dismissed Airforce personnel were part of the people that hijacked the truck. “The truck and the goods were recovered intact and all the suspects have been identified by the victims. Suspects will be charged to court at the conclusion of the investigation.”
In another development, the Edgal also paraded suspects identified as Adewunmi Suleiman,28; Olorunda Michael, 21; Omoba Idowu,27; Olanrewaju Hammed,20; Ransom Adewuye, 27; Ayo Adeyanju,27; Anu Akinola, 24; Ige Paul Akanbi,29; Batunde Rufai, 82 and Ariyo Elegbede 52 over the killing of a police officer at Haruna Bus Ifako Ijaiye, Ogba area of Lagos when a mob attacked a police patrol team and vandalized a patrol van stationed to provide security in the area.
He said that, investigation into the case revealed that the suspects are cultist as attested to by one of them, Ayo Adeyanju who conveyed the corpse of their late member to the burial site
