Former governor of Jigawa State and presidential aspirant under the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Sule Lamido, yesterday said the choice of who will emerge the party’s candidate is beyond the PDP. Lamido who stated this after submitting his presidential nomination forms at the national secretariat of PDP however said the integrity toga ascribed the President Muhammadu Buhari is a fraud. The former governor who stated that PDP created all the democratic framework today, said “in picking the Presidential candidate of the PDP, the choice is beyond PDP, it is also a choice of Nigerians. Nigerians in the last three has realised what APC and what we have gone through in the last three years.
“I said it because of all the aspirants, am not bragging and I mean it, if looking for a resilient politician, consistency, loyalty and someone who is going to say the truth no matter what. Therefore we need somebody who will flush out that para civilian out.”
Reacting to a question on Buhari ability to amass votes in the North, Lamido said, “You are still young, there have been integrity before Buhari, there have been honesty in Nigerian before Buhari. So therefore, integrity is not an invention under APC. Before Buhari will lead us, even our anthem says the labor of our heros passed, before Buhari we had Awolowo, Ahmadu Bello, Nanmdi Azikiwe, Aminu Kano, Tafabalewa and these are people of integrity. And Buhari never for once pay tribute to them. “Wherever he goes he will destroy history, reinvent it, reerect it and say his the only person with integrity. Before Buhari there have been integrity, honesty and his going to leave all these behind. Beyond and after Buhari there will be Nigeria. So Buhari integrity is a fraud, is a false.”
Meanwhile, the chairman of the PDP Board of Trustees (BoT) Sen Walid Jibrin, has cautioned members of the board not to campaign around with presidential aspirants in the party.
Jibrin stated this at a meeting of the BoT where he and his secretary, former senate president, Sen Adolphus Wabara, were given a five yeat extension in office.
Speaking with newsmen, Jibrin said “if you are a member of BoT, you remain as a member of BoT and conscience of the party. They should not move about with any aspirant. If we are really conscience of the party, we should not move about with aspirants. That was what happened during the last national convention when we elected the National Chairman.
“Some of us went and pitch camp with aspirants, taking them all over the place. This time, we will not allow that to happen. Anyone of us who move about with any aspirant should resign from the BoT. We are the one that will settle the complain. But if we are involved it will not be fair. So we have told the members not to campaign with the aspirants; we are also the delegates,” he said.
He said the BoT deliberated on the current situation in the party, noting that they have recommended that “we have to manage the situation very well, so that it does not led to crisis.
“The Presidential aspirants are 13. We are trying our best to ensure that the number is reduced. But we are not forcing anybody. More consultations are going among the elders. We are going to bring out a committee that will be best for Nigerians.”
