The national executive council (NEC) of the New Progressive Movement (NPM) has announced the various dates of its election primaries, as well as the prices of nomination forms and cost of expression of interest.
The announcement was made at its national headquarters in Abuja.
According to the national chairman of the party, Mustapha Bala Getso, the dates of their election primaries are as follows: the date for the state assembly primaries is on 28 September, 2018; House of Reps- 25 September 2018; Senate- 29 September, 2018; Governorship- 29 September 2018 and Presidential- 6 October, 2018.
The cost of expression of interest to aspire for a position in the state assembly is N20,000; House Reps- N40,000; Senate- N100, 000; Governorship N500,000; Presidential N1 million.
While the prices for the nomination forms Re as follows: State Assembly- N100,000; House of Reps- N400,000; Senate- N900,000; Governorship- N1,500,000; Presidential- N4million.
Speaking further, Getso said the reason for the reduced prices is to encourage youths to participate and to completely remove the issue of money politics.
“The reason for the reduction is to encourage youth participation in all the general elections and we also want to remove the issue of money politics because if you insist on a high amount for the nomination forms, most of the competent people with integrity will not be able to vie for any office.
“So, we are welcoming all our youths across the nation and we would like our youths in the country to know that we are not just putting prices on these forms for anybody to come, we have set up a screening committee that will thoroughly screen members so that we can choose only people that have the integrity to contest on the platform of this party.
“Not that because the price is low, someone who has no secondary school certificate or any other requirement as requested by the constitution, will now want to vie for a position. We are not giving room for anyhow members.
“Also, there is a waiver for female aspirants and disabled or physically challenged people. All they need to do is to pay for the expression of interest but the nomination form is free.”
The national chairman also added, “Sale of forms began on Monday, 3 September, 2018 at the national headquarters from 8am to 5pm every day, while the closing date of the sale of forms is on 21 September, 2018.
“We welcome more interested youths that have integrity into the party. All aspirants will have to go through screening and the time for that would be given to them when they come to pick up the nomination forms.”
