Three men- Dare Adebayo, Wale Olatoke and Muyiwa Adejola, who stole a bag of rice and a gallon of oil, were yesterday, remanded at Ikoyi Prison by an Ogudu Magistrates’ Court in Lagos.
The magistrate, Mrs E Kubeinje, said that the accused, who pleaded guilty, would be remanded in prison until Sept 25 for facts and sentencing.
Adebayo, 21, of Magboro, Olatoke, 19, and Adejola, 19, both of Jakande Market, are all facing a two- count charge of conspiracy and stealing.
Earlier, the prosecutor, Lucky Ihiehie, had told the court that the accused committed the offences at Jakande Market, Ikosi, Ketu, on Sept 1.
Ihiehie said that the accused stole a bag of rice valued at N13, 000 with a 20 litre groundnut oil valued at N11, 500 and took them to the complainant’s shop to sell to her.
“The complainant, Jeliat Rashidu, a food seller, reported the matter to the Ketu Police Station.
“She said she was in her “buka” selling food when the accused brought the foodstuff to her to buy.
“She asked them where they got the rice and oil from and they claimed they saw it on the express way on their way from Fela’s Shrine.
“She suspected foul play and went to call the market authority and they were arrested,’’ he said.
The offences contravened Sections 411 and 287 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.
