Anambra community under the auspices of Anam Progressive Forum, has expressed disappointment against Governor Willie Obiano, for endorsing his immediate past SA Political, Chinedu Obidigwe, for House of Representatives under the platform of All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) for 2019 general elections.
Spokesperson of the community, Nonso Ozoemena, who spoke to newsmen in Abuja, argued that such endorsement violated the unconventional zoning arrangement in the state, stressing that having come from the same village with Obidigwe, it is morally wrong for the governor to endorse him.
He further noted that a constituency with several villages and communities should be magnanimous in spreading elective positions to other communities having enjoying the exulted position of the state governor.
“I want to address an issue happening in Anambra North senatorial zone. Basically, we have an unconventional zoning arrangement but from all indications, the governor is fronting somebody for the House of Representatives to the detriment of other communities in that constituency.
“My people have been protesting the decision of the governor to support his immediate past SA political, Chinedu Obidigwe. He resigned because he wants to contest for House of Representatives. The community has told him in clear terms that it is morally and politically wrong for him to contest for the position having come from the same village with the seating governor.
“How does he expect the House of Representatives member to come from that same village in a constituency of 25 community within two Local Government Areas.
“This endorsement is affecting the chances of other community producing the next senator and as the spokesperson of Anam Progressive Forum, we want to put it on record that we kicked against this injustice. History will forgive us that we did
“Our concern is that such endorsement does not conform with our zoning arrangements. Somebody like Governor Obiano would not have emerged the governor if not zoning because he is from the minority part of Anambra. He should not muddle up things by severing the zoning arrangement with such endorsement.
“In a nutshell, Anam community which spread across two local governments in Anambra East and Anambra West. It is time for other community to produce House of Representatives member but we have seen sinister moves by the governor to impose Chinedu Obidigwe to represent the constituency. We have formally written to the governor complaining about the implication of such injustice,” he said.
