An Ilorin Magistrate’s court has sentenced a man, Samuel Asiwaju to one-year imprisonment for stealing an Itel Android Phone.
However, the convict was given an option of N5, 000 fine.
The prosecutor, Sergeant Kayode Roda, told the court that Samuel Asiwaju was arrested by Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department, Ilorin, following a complaint on August 27,2018 by one Fabiyi Oluwashina of Fate Tanke Area, Ilorin, that Asiwaju stole his Itel Android Phone.
Sergeant Roda said the offence was contrary to Sections 288 of Penal Code Law.
The complainant, Fabiyi Oluwashina, stated that on August 23, 2018, he went to a Barber’s Shop at Tanke area to charge his Itel Android Phone and it was unplugged and carted away by unknown thief or thieves but, he strongly suspected one black short boy that used to come around the Barber’s Shop.
He further stated that on August 27, 2018 when he was going towards Tanke area, the said suspect boy, who was later known as Samuel Asiwaju, was arrested and brought to SCIID Office, Ilorin.
The Police First Information Report stated that during the course of investigation at Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department, Ilorin, it was revealed that the said Itel Android Phone was recovered from Samuel Asiwaju.
When the charge was read to Asiwaju, he told the court he was an orphan, pleaded guilty and begged for leniency.
The prosecutor therefore prayed the court to try Asiwaju summarily.
In her ruling, the magistrate, Mrs Jumoke Bello, summarily sentenced Asiwaju to one year imprisonment with an option of N5,000 fine.
