1000 Youths Get Skill Acquisition Training

The Southern Kaduna Development Forum (SOKADEF) yesterday, graduated about 1000 youths that participated in one-year skill acquisition training in Kaduna State.
According to the group, the training is under SOKADEF’s ‘One Million Youth Self-Help Empowerment Scheme in Southern Kaduna,’ which is aimed at increasing productivity of the Southern Kaduna People through creation of enabling environment for human capital and social safety nets. Speaking during the graduation ceremony held at New Choice Hotel, Kafanchan, the initiator of the programme and founder of SOKADEF, Dr Daniel Rikichi Kajang, said they are also working on innovative proposals, building partnership for strengthening career exploration and skills development for Southern Kaduna youth to remove the barriers for self-actualisation of the youths’ dream.

While encouraging the beneficiaries to engage in small-scale businesses and participate in cooperatives for economic growth, he added that, “We should emphasise the positive gains of government rather than dwelling on negative issues and setbacks.” “Even if everywhere was sinking, where we stand should be stable. We should not create freedom for ourselves and oppression for others. There can’t be development without peace and tranquility in our society,” Kajang said. Speaking, an educationist, Dr Ben Yayock, said Southern Kaduna is the most fertile land but yet, least developed.   He said the area is not developing because the people still stick to the kind of education they were introduced by the colonial masters.
“The new trend now is skills acquisition,” Yayock said, adding that a lot of people in Southern Kaduna are Masters and PhD holders but added that they were not employed because of the type of education they acquired.
