190 retirees of the Lagos State civil service have gotten N720.44 million as their pension entitlements for the month of August, 2018.
Speaking at the 54th Retirement Benefits Bond Certificate Presentation ceremony in Alausa, Ikeja, Lagos, the Commissioner, Ministry of Establishment, Training and Pensions, Dr. Akintola Benson Oke, said, 9,591 retirees have had accrued rights of N39,450 billion paid into their Retirement Savings Accounts(RSAs) in the last 37 months, that is, from August 2015 to August 2018.
Pensioners, he said, are always on the payroll priority of Lagos State every month and that the State is happy that it had cleared its pension backlog which was on ground at the beginning of the administration of Governor Akinwunmi Ambode.
Speaking earlier, the Director General, Lagos State Pension Commission(LASPEC), Mrs Folasade Onanuga, appreciated the retirees for their contribution to the development of the state, assuring them of the Governor’s commitment to their welfare in retirement.
She advised the retirees to spend wisely in retirement, urging them not to embark on a project they knew cannot be fully accomplished.
The retirees applauded LASPEC Staff for their effectiveness and efficiency during these years, imploring them to continue to live up to expectations.
