Ambulance Crash

An investigation has been launched following the death of a 69-year-old man after the ambulance he was being transported in, collided with a car and flipped.

The crash occurred on Port Road just metres from the entrance to the Royal Adelaide Hospital around 10:45pm last night.

Emergency crews rushed to the scene and took the patient to hospital, but he died this afternoon.

A relative who was also in the ambulance was treated in hospital while the other driver escaped with only minor injuries.

Two paramedics involved in the incident sustained minor grazes, and have been offered support from the SA Ambulance Service.

SA Ambulance said the patient was a man from Westbourne Park, who was being taken to hospital for treatment for a pre-existing medical condition.

“A patient and some of their family members were also travelling in the ambulance at the time of the collision, and our thoughts are with them and all concerned,” a spokesperson for SA Ambulance said.
