The Nigeria Police Force, yesterday, warned Osun electorate not to indulge in the entrenched practice of buying or selling votes, saying who ever is caught doing that will have himself to blame.
The head, public complaint rapid response unit of the force, made this known during a media interaction in Osogbo, yesterday, saying the police is at alert to deal with such people because it is a criminal offence.
Speaking, the head of the unit, assistant commissioner of police (ACP), Abayomi Sogunle, said vote buying or selling will not be tolerated, adding that the unit was put in place to check the excesses of the bad eggs within the police force.
Sogunle disclosed that the unit has recovered N11.1 million bribes by bad eggs within the police officers since 2015 when the unit was created.
The ACP and his team who are on sensitisation trip across the state said the police force had dismissed over 10 police officers within the last two years as a result of unprofessional conduct.
He averred that the unit’s mission in the state was to carry out sensitisation exercise by meeting with various members of the public on the need to report any unprofessional conduct of any police officers before, during and after the governorship election.
Sogunle stressed that the force will not play with any unprofessional conduct of any officers in order to protect the image of the police nationwide, saying complaints would be treated with the fear of God as to restore dignity and sanity to the force.
He also reminded men and the officers of the force to eschew criminal activities, reiterating that the force will not tolerate any form of criminality, saying the force will do everything in its power to ensure a free, fair and credible governorship election in the state.
