Uba, Nzeribe, Obiogbolu Seek PDP Senatorial Tickets



Self acclaimed leader of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP)in Anambra State, Chief Chris Uba, his erstwhile ally in the party, Hon. Chuma Nzeribe and former governorship aspirant in the state, Dr. Obinna Uzor are now at each other’s jugular in their bids to fly the party’s flag in Anambra South Senatorial district election during the forthcoming general elections.

Chairman of the PDP in the state, Chief Ndubuisi Nwobu who disclosed this to LEADERSHIP in an exclusive interview yesterday at the state headquarters of the party in Awka, said that the former aspirant of the party’s ticket for last gubernatorial election in the state, Dr. Alex Obiogbolu has indicated his interest to fly the party’s flag in Anambra North Senatorial zone, and that another aspirant, Hon. Kingsley Nnalue has also indicated his interest to challenge Obiogbolu for the ticket.

Nwobu stated further that about 20 aspirants have purchased the party’s forms seeking to emerge as candidates of the PDP in the 11 Federal House of Representatives constituencies in the state while those who have purchased and submitted their forms to contest elections under the party’s platform in the 30 state House of Assembly constituencies are already 43.

The PDP state chairman who expressed optimism that PDP will win majority of the National and State Assembly seats in the state in the forthcoming general elections, stated further that he is optimistic that more aspirants would join in the jostle for the party’s tickets for the coming general elections in the country.

Meanwhile, the chairman of the Anambra State Ad-hoc Ward Delegate Congress Electoral Appeal Panel set up by the PDP national headquarters to entertain any complaints from aggrieved party members over the conduct of the just concluded ward delegate congress in the state, Hon. Rufus Omeire has expressed satisfaction with the conduct of the exercise.

He told LEADERSHIP yesterday at the PDP state headquarters, Awka, venue of the panel’s sitting that three hours after they commenced sitting no petition had been submitted to his panel by any member of the party, stating rather that what his panel had received so far was commendation by the stakeholders on the peaceful and transparent manner the exercise was conducted.

Omeire stated, “ This is a new face of PDP in Anambra State. No petition filed, this means that the process was free and fair. And what we have received so far is commendation on the free and fair manner the 3-man Adhoc Ward delegate congress was held. The chairman of PDP in Oyi local government, Hon. Emeka Agulu came here and said the process was free and fair; that everybody adhered to the party’s electoral guidelines.

“So, we shall continue to sit here to wait in case any member will come with any petition. And if nobody comes, we shall go and write our report, and, submit to our national headquarters.”
