Senate president and presidential aspirant Dr. Olukola Saraki has promised to take Nigeria to the Promised Land if given the opportunity to govern Nigeria from 2019.
Saraki made the remark while speaking at the state executive chambers of Governors Office Calabar, yesterday, saying that the wealth of experience gained as a Governor of Kwara State and the management of affairs for the Nigerian Senate will be put to bear to manage the economy of Nigeria if given the opportunity to lead the country as the president.
The senate president who is jostling to occupy office of the president under the platform of PDP said that he came to the state to solicit support towards his course to emerge as the president of the federal republic of Nigeria in 2019 stated that A time has come when the people of Nigeria needs a man with the requisite capacity to rule the country.
“Your excellency I say I am here to seek the support of delegates from your state. “We have in October fifth and sixth to pick our presidential candidates for our great party.
“Your excellency where Nigeria is today, not only in Nigeria but the world all over, there is a new world order, a new world order that we have new type of leadership.
“A new world order that requires a president that is mobile, digital, and can plan for his people and plan for the direction. We have seen this evolved across the world.
“Everyone is waiting on when it would come to Nigeria, We cannot afford to wait. It is not just about voting the APC,It is about voting the APC and destroying Nigeria instead of repairing Nigeria.
“As stakeholders in the management of affairs of Nigeria, we need to elect a president that knows what the issues are if we must grow the country.
“If we must address the issue of prosperity; this is not going to happen by chance.
“There were countries which grew up Asian tigers; it didn’t just happen by chance. They had leaders that at a particular time in history had a vision. I have a vision.
“That is why I get excited when I visit this state. I listen to your big ideas. They are big ideas because I heard you say I want to build the deep seaport and a super highway that will serve as an evacuation corridor. “All these go a long way to boost the economy of the nation.
“Government alone cannot do all that is needed to be done to take us as a country to the Promised Land.
“We must create an enabling environment that would make us as a people have confidence in government.
“We must see a president with a charm and say this is our president”
The presidential hopeful urged Nigerians to shun sentiments but vote in a person with the capacity to lead the nation stressing that sentiments cannot take the country to anywhere when it comes to issues of leadership adding that instead Nigerians should strive to put in people with abilities and capacity to if they are interested in transforming the country to a better nation.
In his remarks, Cross River State governor, Ben Ayade who played host to the senate president said he was happy to see Saraki indicating interest to vie for the seat of the president and charged Saraki to look into the injustice suffered by the people of Cross River state adding that the seizure of the oil well ceded to the people of Cameroon and neighboring state of Akwa Ibom has inflicted poverty and economic hardship to the people of the state.
He said he would be happy with any aspirants who wins the office of the president and address the plights of the state particularly that of Bakassi people of Cross River State.
