It was indeed a watershed in the history of Akwa Ibom South Senatorial District In the rally organized in honour of President Muhammadu Buhari and to encourage him to continue in office as President beyond 2019, as well as to receive Obong Nsima Ekere, the son of the Senatorial District whose performance has been a source of inspiration and blessing to the entire senatorial district as the Managing Director of Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC).
The rally was a gathering of who is who in the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Akwa Ibom State. The event attracted unprecedented crowd of people that overstretched the venue and spread beyond the vicinity to present a view of heads of the people interlocking to form a mighty ocean of the new venue receding to a boundary where the earth appears to meet with the sky.
It was a day of good tidings and bountiful harvests in favour of APC as a party of change: marching out in colours with gigantic steps in demonstration of its readiness to take over the government to provide a better governance that will help to step up the faith of the people once again in government. An APC government will prove to the people that government exists for the overall interest of providing for the welfare and security of its.
But on the other hand, it was unforgettable doomsday signaling the end of Udom’s apartheid rule in the state.
On that Tuesday, September11, 2018, the kin and kids of Udom in his very district rose in unity vehemently against his second term ambition due to the disdain he brought to the area because of his despotic and imperialistic proclivities.
In his stead , the people of the district persuaded and beckoned on another noble son of the district, Obong Nsima Ekere who has performed creditably in office as MD of NDDC to pick up nomination form in APC without further delay to replace Udom who has no goodwill of his people and that of God anymore.
All the Speakers, from the Chairman Central Planning Committee of the rally, Engr. Benedict Ukpong (Okete Okete Oro), the Chairman of the Occasion, Senator Nelson Effiong, the former Governor of Akwa Ibom State and the Senator representing Akwa Ibom North West Senatorial District, Sen. Godswill Akpabio, Chairman of APC Caucus, Atuekong Don Etiebet, Managing Director of Oil and Gas Free Zone, Obong Umana Okon Umana, in their seperate speeches, were in agreement that Obong Nsima Ekere should contest as governor of Akwa Ibom State.
Sen.Dr. Akpabio in his encapsulation further, expounded that from the signals and the sequence of adoptions unfolding, starting from Akwa Ibom North west Senatorial Districts followed with this one from Akwa Ibom South senatorial District, he opined that likely, HE Obong Dr. Nsima Ekere may emerge as consensus candidate. He went further to urge him to serve only one term of four years and then transfer power to uyo.
Another event that played up to the glare on the day was the defection of over twenty thousand members of PDP to APC, ably led by Her Honour, Noble Lady Valarie Ebeh, the former Deputy Governor of Akwa Ibom State and H E Sen. Lady Emeh Uffot Ekaette, the wife of H E Obong Ufot Ekaette, the former Deputy Governor Akwa Ibom State and the former Secretary to the Federal government, who also, is from the same Local Government Area with Udom Emmanuel, the current Governor of Akwa Ibom State.
The defectors were presented by the State Chairman of the Party, Hon. Ini Okopido who in turn handed them over the Vice Chairman South South, Ntufam Hlliard Eta, who finally received them to the Party on behalf of the National Chairman of the Party, Comrade Adams Oshiomole.
Both Noble Lady Valarie Ebeh and Lady Sen. Emeh Ekaette gave reasons in their separate speeches that they defected to APC due to the bad governance and poor leadership style of Udom Emmanuel.
In his speech earlier, the Chairman of the occasion, Sen. Nelson Effiong, had disassociated Sen. Akpabio, the great teacher who taught Udom from blames of the poor performance of UDOM in office, highlighting that Udom was already a bad student with poor socio cultural background with no basic inherent qualities to assimilate higher level of technology of instructions taught due to his low political intellectual capacity. In his illation, he therefore equated Udom to a kindergarten pupil destitute in the pedagogy of politics.
Now that the stage is set for APC to take over the Hill Top Mansion and the reigns of government in the matter of months, and in that light, the Party sympathizes with the entire people of Akwa Ibom for the hardship they had been subjected to under Udom’s maladministration, which has never been the case in other previous administrations.
And at the same time the party assures Akwa Ibom people that the government under the watch APC will do everything possible to alleviate the untold sufferings brought upon the great people of the State by the inexperienced hands in government.
President Mohammndu Buhari was represented in the rally by Sen. Ita Enang, Senior Special Assistant to the President on National Assembly Matters.
Herewith attached, is a catalogue of the pictures in attestation to fact the turnout was beyond counting.
