Nigeria Deserves Leadership That Understands Democracy – Tambuwal

Sokoto State governor and a presidential aspirant under the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) Aminu Waziri Tambuwal, has said he is on a mission to rescue Nigeria.

Tambuwal who spoke in Ebonyi State while on a visit to the governor of the state ahead of the PDP presidential primaries, said the nation truly deserves a leader that can unite rather than divide us.

Addressing Ebonyi State PDP delegates at the Government House, Abakiliki, Tambuwal assured that he is ever ready to provide alternative, sound and vibrantly inclusive governance to Nigerians.

According to a statement by Tambuwal’s director general, Media and Public Affairs, Abu Shekara, the governor’s mission and aspiration for seeking to lead Nigeria is to provide alternative leadership that will guarantee peace and unity among citizens.

“Nigeria deserves leadership that understands democracy and upholds democratic ideals and is capable of fixing the economy and promoting unity, which is threatened now, more than at any time in the nation’s history.”

He also lamented that the fault lines are so deep and Nigerians need to feel at home anywhere in Nigeria. “Nigeria is an international laughing stock and we need to change that image.”

He therefore admonished delegates at the PDP convention to have the progress and security of the nation in mind during the primaries. He pledged to ensure that unity and security are guaranteed citizens living in all parts of the country, if given the mandate to lead Nigeria.

Responding,  Ebonyi State governor, Ifeanyi Okowa, said he felt honoured to be the first to host Tambuwal, whose democratic credentials he described as unquestionable.

The governor confirmed that Tambuwal’s unification of the House of Representatives when he was speaker, as well as his remarkable achievements as governor of Sokoto State, eminently qualifies him to lead Nigeria.

Represented by his deputy, the governor expressed confidence in Tambuwal’s aspiration to unite, rather than balkanise the country.

The governor then noted that Ebonyi people want a president that would make their state equal with other states in the country.
