President of Nigeria Shooting Federation (NSF), Brigadier -General Lonsdale Adeoye has decried the non-inclusion of the sports in the upcoming National Sports Festival stating that the federation has what it takes to participate during the games which is scheduled from December 6th-16th later this year.
While speaking to LEADERSHIP sports the retired Army General said that the organizers left out shooting from the sports festival due to lack of funds.‘’ We have the shooters in the military and para-military who are raring to go but the organizers of the National Sports Festival are saying there are no funds.Shooting is a multi-medal sport that should be harnessed.’’ He said
‘’We are supposed to have been at the National Youth Games in Ilorin but the director of Sports said they don’t want to start training the children on how to shoot unlike other countries where they train their children from 4 years as shooting has no age barrier in other climes.
Adeoye further revealed that the federation will be competing in four different tournament before the end of the year stressing that the country has the talents to put the nation on the world map.
“We have four international competitions ahead of us and we will sponsor ourselves comprising of the military and para-military personnel. We have the largest shooting para athletes in the whole of Africa.’’
“Just as the Minister of Sports said, Sports brings peace, development, job creation to the country. Hence we will continue to do our best to represent in any way.
The Chief of Defence Staff has been supportive and we will go with the DSS because they have the best and newest weapons’’ he concluded.
The 19th edition of the national sport festival tagged “ABUJA 2018, “World Series Edition” is expected to see over 12,500 home based athletes from the 36 states of the federation including the FCT vying for glory in 37 sporting events.
