Youths Won’t Be Available For Thuggery In 2019, NYCN Warn Parties, Aspirants

The President, National Youth Council of Nigeria, (NYCN) Sukubo Sara-Igbe Sukubo has warned political parties and aspirants to perish any thoughts of using youths as thugs during the 2019 general elections.

Sukubo who stated this during the official ‘hand over’ of the Nigeria Youths House and mattle of leadership to the newly elected executives recently, in Abuja, added that any aspirant who wants to recruit thugs should start with his or her children.

He said “Let me use this opportunity to also sound a note of warning to the political class that, Nigeria youths are not and should not be use as thugs in the forthcoming 2019  general elections. Any politician that needs thugs, should start from his or her family,” he said.

The NYCN president also explained that, “the today youths, are not like the youths of yesterday. We are educated and we have over time gotten the required leadership knowledge to solve some of our National problems. So the youths should be given opportunity to also contribute their own quota to the development of Nigeria.”

He decried the the high cost of the expression of interest and nomination forms saying, “the forms are too expensive for most of our youth who are ready to run. But a few have bought the forms. So I charge all lovers of democracy and concerned Nigerian youths to support competent and credible youths seeking for an elective position in any part of the country.

“Meanwhile, irrespective of our political difference, all political parties should give the needed support and opportunity to the youths to enable them to serve. Youth should be given appointments as ministers, director general, commissioners and other positions. As a matter of fact, there is need for a Minister of youth to be a youth with credibility, energy and capacity to drive the future, he added.

Sukubo who urged the youths to remain peaceful, law abiding and steadfast noted that “ we are aware of enormous task ahead, we are ready for the challenges. We shall put in our effort, do our best to bring about unity among the youths, improve the welfare of the youths and make Nigeria a better place for all.

Earlier in his speech, the immediate past President, Murtala Muhammed Garba Gamji, described the newly elected executives as people of good character and capability to lead.

He said, “ this are your executives, recognized by law and by you. I know most of them, they are people of good character, credible personalities and they have the capability to lead the youths to the promise land.
