A chieftain of the opposition, All Progressives Congress (APC), in Abia State, Ambassador Chidike Ukauwa, has said that Governor Okezie Ikpeazu is a product of godfatherism.
Ukauwa stated this at a media forum in his office in Umuahia, the state capital, adding that Ikpeazu and his administration had been subjected to the whims and caprices of the godfathers.
“This is why the state has not witnessed any form of transformation. Our infrastructures are decaying. Every sector of the economy of the state appears to have broken down,” he said.
Appealing to the people to liberate themselves from him in the 2019 general election, he said if the governor were allowed to remain in office beyond then, the people would pay dearly for it.
According to him, “Power must change hands in the state come 2019. We are sick and tired of this administration. It is as if the people have been enslaved. We are under serious bondage.”
Ukauwa, who is the Students’ National Ambassador of Nigeria and a foundation member of the APC in the state, wondered what had been happening to the resources of the state.
“What has been happening to the allocations of the state? There is nothing to show that something is coming into the state. No infrastructure and nothing. The state has collapsed.”
The chieftain condemned the position of those clamouring for the return of the governor to office next year based on the Abia Charter of Equity, saying the state needs a committed leader who can deliver.
He expressed worry over the nomination form’s fees of his party for the election, adding that it negates the Not-Too-Young-To-Run Bill recently accented to by President Muhammadu Buhari.
Speaking of the party’s chances of winning the election, he argued that it is brighter than it was in 2015, adding that, “the state is one of those where it will sweep the poll clean.”
