A governorship aspirant on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Rivers State, Senator Magnus Ngei Abe, has raised the alarm over alleged plot by some individuals to smear his reputation before national leadership of the party.

Abe, who raised the alarm at the weekend while speaking at a rally at Ahoada town, headquarters of Ahoada-East local government area of Rivers State, declared that any campaign of calumny against him will fail.

The APC governorship hopeful stated that he is interested in occupying the Rivers state government house in 2019 because he has a clear plan to develop the state.

He said it was unfortunate for politicians who do not want him to actualize his ambition of becoming governor to resort to smear campaign in a bid to bring him down.

Abe said: “There is an orchestrated campaign to bring me down and paint me black before the national leadership of our party. The campaign is sponsored and paid for by some people because we have looked at what is happening in the state and said that we have solution.

“Those who do not want that our decision to run have come up with a campaign of hate before our party leadership to end our campaign before we even start.”

The senator, however urged his supporters to ignore any hate campaign aimed at tarnishing his reputation in the interest of the party and Rivers State at large, adding that what the state needs now is unity and not politics of bitterness.

He said: “Be ready to contribute to what is better for yourselves, do not respond to the smear campaign against me, do not answer them”.

“We cannot join them in spreading the hate because we cannot destroy this party or destroy our state. What we need now is to bring development to our state, unity and not hate”.

“I plead with you not to respond to the politics of hate. They are saying those things because they came to me and said do not contest and I said no, it is my right to contest”,he said.
