The Minister of state, Aviation, Sen. Hadi Sirika, has disclosed that the new civil aviation bill before the national assembly would increase the funding of Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet).
Sirika, who stated this in Abuja, noted that the bill had been approved by the Federal Executive Council (FEC) and sent to the national assembly for passage.

Sirika further said that NiMet had acquired the requisite capability to deliver accurate and timely weather information to its users, added that the agency had taken the lead in the provision of meteorological services in Africa.
He also noted that NiMet had expanded its services to other sectors as agriculture to help farmers to mitigate the impact of climate change.
According to him, “Some farmers that heeded the advice of NiMet prediction at a particular year came to testify during the SRP presentation in 2018.
“We have the capability to predict the amount of rainfall for this year all over the country. We will continue to fund that service and support it. Aviation is the greatest user of meteorological services because of the usage per minute and per second aside the agriculture and other sectors.”
Meanwhile, the minister of State, Aviation, Hadi Sirika, heads of aviation agencies and over 400 other delegates will converge in Asaba, Delta state capital for the national delegates conference of the National Union of Air Transport Employees (NUATE) billed to take place from 26th to 28th of September this year.
Speaking on the arrangements on ground for a hitch -free conference at the weekend, general secretary of NUATE, Comrade Olayinka Abioye said the 10th quadrennial national delegates conference with its theme, ‘Public, private Partnership In Aviation Industry – Perspective From Investors Labour and Management’ will also feature awards.
Comrade Abioye further explained that past leaders of the NUATE will equally be honoured, including heads of aviation agencies for their contributions to the development of the aviation sector.
The conference according to him, will take place at Grand Hotel Asaba from Wednesday 26 to Friday 28 September 2018.
The NUATE scribe informed that Hadi Sirika will be conferred with “Aviation Minister of the Decade Award” while 5 Chief Executive Officers CEOs of the agencies will be awarded with Transformational Leadership accolades.
The conference will also usher in new national executives that will steer the affairs of the union in the next four years.
NUATE, a leading aviation union in the country is also an affiliate body of the Nigerian Labour Union (NLC) which has been championing the course of Air Transport Employees for decades.
