N’Delta Youths Commend Bichi’s Appointment As DG DSS

Some youths under the aegis of Niger Delta Ambassadors, have commended the appointment of Yusuf Bichi as the director general of Department of State Services (DSS).

Addressing journalists in Abuja at the weekend through its convener, Inatimi Jonathan Angolo, the group said the appointment of director general of DSS is the exclusive right of the President which should not be seen as biased, political or religious.

They noted that the primary duty of the DSS chief is to protect the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria as it relates to national security and wondered why people who are supposed to be leaders in their right would make unguarded statements to heat up the polity.

They frowned  at the Bayelsa State governor, Hon Seriake Dickson and state chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Mr Cleopas Moses for condemning President Muhammadu for appointing a Northern as DSS head, saying the important question is whether or not Bichi has the required intelligence competence.

“It is also the exclusive right of the president to choose whoever he knows is competent to manage the nation’s security as the director general of DSS. We should not sacrifice national security on the altar of sentiments, tribe or religion. It is beyond and individual,” the group said.

It noted that Chief Olusegun Obasanjo appointed Col. Kayode Are from Southwest as DSS DG in 1999; the late Umaru Musa Yar’Adua appointed Afakriya Gadzama from Northwest and Goodluck Jonathan appointed lta Ekpenyong from South-south.

“So why the sentiments over who heads the DSS under Buhari’s administration”,the group queried.

We, the Niger Delta Ambassadors are urging other Nigerians to join hands with President Muhammadu Buhari to move this country forward, adding that “religious and tribal sentiments will only tear us apart and keep us perpetually underdeveloped”.
