Politicians and aspirants of various political parties in Edo State, on Saturday, turned the burial ceremony of the late father of the deputy chief whip of the House of Representatives, Mr Pally Iriase, to a campaign.
The lawmaker’s father, Elder Ugbuma Iriase, died in August, at the age of 110, leaving behind, 11 children, including the lawmaker.
The burial ceremony which had in attendance, personalities of note including the lawmaker’s colleagues from the National Assembly, saw many politicians trying to market themselves to the people.
The ceremony also had in attendance, chieftains of the various political parties, especially the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
Some of the politicians who are vying for various political positions in the state, openly canvassed support from the people.
Aside shouting the slogans of their various parties, the politicians also shared souvenirs inscribed with names and party logos.
The politicians who moved from one table to the other, also wore clothes crested with their logos and party flag. They also tried to solicit the support of Iriase, who is having a running battle with his party, All Progressives Congress (APC) over the conduct of the party’s congresses.
Iriase, who is yet to pledge allegiance to any political party, was schemed out during the APC congresses along with several of his supporters.
