Budgetary Allocation For Training Of Staff Declines Yearly – HoS

The Head of the Civil Service of the Federation (HoS), Mrs Winifred Ekanem Oyo-Ita, has decried a yearly decline in budgetary allocation for the training of civil servants in the Federal Civil Service.

The head of service who said this, yesterday during a paper presentation, titled: “Civil Service Reforms and National Development in Nigeria”, at the National Defence College, Abuja, also argued that the slim budget poses severe danger to the effectiveness and growth of the service.

While reiterating that there is a positive correlation between a strong and virile civil service with the growth of the national economy, Oyo-Ita appealed to the National Budget Office, to increase budgetary allocation for the training of staffs to ensure effective civil service that will drive the nation to the needed economic growth and development that is required.

“No matter how organised and constitutional a government is, it would not go very far in the absence of public administration system capable of translating its broad political intentions, enforcing its laws and delivering services needed by the people. Without a professionally competent public administration, the state cannot count on making those things happen which it wants to see happen,” she added.

“There is a correlation between a strong civil service and a strong National Economy. If the civil service is weak and not properly equip, the nation will also suffer economically,” she said.
