… As Oti, Adeife Adedeji, Eniola Thomas, Deliver Message Of Peace
It was a scene to behold at the National theatre in Lagos on Sunday as Nigerian celebrity kids turned up in numbers to advocate for peace and oneness amongst Nigerians, using ‘Children for Peace Concert’ as a platform to relay their message in a day that was filled with excitement, poetic displays and showmanship.
The event which was lit with array of talents being displayed as the kids including notable stylish artiste and songwriter, OzzyBosco Wonderkid, fast rising disc jockey, DJ Young Money, African Michael Jackson, David Obama Geoman, kid poet, Adeife Adedeji, youth gospel artiste, Eniola Thomas, amongst others, all gracing the floors to leave a fingerprint, with a clear, simple message and theme, “We Are One,” which was led by the convener of the event, an eleven year old singer, Environmentalist and Peace Advocate, Ohekuru Tony Iji popularly known as Oti.
With DJ Young Money on the wheels of steel offering topnotch spins, the stage took to effect performances from children of diverse tongues, tribes and creeds using the power of music, dance, poems and other forms of art to drive home the message of unity, tolerance, and peaceful co-existence amongst the Nigerian people in the face of many prejudices currently tearing the country apart, with the concert also serving as an opportunity for the Nigerian children to add their voices thereby imbibing the spirit of oneness among the younger generation.
Oti, performing his ‘Peace’ and ‘Nigeria We Are One’ songs had the audience glued with exhilarating effect, saying to Nigerians, “we are one. If we are not one, we are broken” and he doesn’t want Nigeria broken.
The kid Ambassador for Peace who hopes in five years time to have gained a reputable recognition within and outside the country advised all Nigerians to embrace peace, love and unity and together make the country a better place.
Giving a keynote address with the title “Our Oneness, Not Negotiable,” youngest NDLEA Celebrity Ambassador and UNESCO Child Advocate, Oziomachukwu Chukwujama aka OzzyBee said, “As we celebrate our 58th Independent Anniversary, there is a great need to remind ourselves of the vision of our fore fathers in uniting people of diverse ethnicity to live as one. Though our culture, languages and religion may differ but united we must stand in order to make great impact in the continent of Africa.”
“I say without fear or favour that we the children of today can do even better if given the opportunity and right environment to operate. As children of this great country, we have one thing in common, the desire to be loved, protected and live together happily as one nation. Every Nigerian child deserves to be cared for, given good education, good health care, protected from kidnappers, drug peddlers and all forms of abuse,” he added.
Also a key moment at the event was when nine years old poet, Adeife Adedeji, got the rapt attention of the audience with her message of peace which reads: “Peace will make the world free, open our eyes and help us see. Some kids live through an awful war, their families end up very poor; sometimes they loose even their own shoes. So let’s speak up, tell a friend, all these wars need to end. Peace begins when we care. So let’s make this world truly fair.”
Their advocacy for peace is all parts of efforts to propagate Nigeria’s oneness as part of the commemoration of Nigeria’s 58th Independence Anniversary.
