A presidential aspirant on the platform of the Alliance of Social Democrats (ASD), Idris Waziri, has backed calls for the restructuring of the country noting however that it should be done along tribal inclination. He also said that if he emerges president he would replace state governors with monarchs, and local government chairmen with mayors. Waziri who stated this after obtaining his expression of interest and nomination forms noted that his administration would be committed to restructuring the country and ending insecurity.

He said he wants Nigeria should go back to tribal and parliamentary system of government. “We will have United Tribes of Nigeria and we will have tribal resources control. A mayor will govern each tribe and it will control what God has bestowed there. Each tribe will however give 65 per cent to federal government and it takes care of the rest.”
He added, “A mayor’s jurisdiction shall be determined by the number of local government his recognised Monarch reigns over. The Monarch will be the ceremonial head.”
“A government funded National Chamber and Five Star Retirement City shall be built for past governors, National Assembly members, National Award Winners, presidential invitees and their families. That is in line with our Respect Your Elders Culture,” he added.

Waziri who bemoaned the security and economic situations in the country said the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) has failed to deliver on campaign promises. He said his administration would be geared towards good governance, international cooperation for the consolidation of universal peace and mutual respect among all nations and a just world economic order. Speaking earlier, the national chairman of ASD, Dr Emeka Okengwu, said it is time for young persons who are matured in soul and mind to come forward for the leadership of the country. While describing Waziri as a detribalised Nigerian and farmer, he said the aspirant has done what government should have been doing. “He is into farming. All his farms are in location that has little to do with his tribe and faith as it spreads across Nigeria,” he said.
