The presidential primary election of the All Progressives Congress (APC) was held today across the 236 Wards in Ogun state and it was generally peaceful.

Our correspondent observed that the election was hitch free in wards in Abeokuta metropolis as APC faithful turned out in large numbers to cast their vote for President Muhammadu Buhari, who was the only presidential aspirant of the party in the forthcoming 2019 election.

It was also observed that the election was conducted through a direct primary mode of election as directed by the national leadership of the party.

At the Igbore Ward 13 where the former governor of the state, Aremo Olusegun Osoba cast his vote, the former governor commended the conduct and outcome of the exercise held at his ward in the Abeokuta South local government.

Osoba, who addressed party members at the venue, urged them to abstain from all forms of violence during the remaining party primaries to come later in the week.

He also advocated for continuity in governance in the state, maintaining that he has no anointed candidate among all the six gubernatorial aspirants in the state.

“The exercise was very peaceful and orderly. This is an indication that all other primaries will go on smoothly.

“I have come here today to preach unity to our members. They should embrace peace and forget all differences that might have had in the past. We must learn serious lesson from Osun. We must not be disunited. We must go into all races as one family and whoever emerges must become our official candidate of all of us irrespective of the position or age.

“We must accept whoever emerges as flag bearer at all levels. Not only for governorship, but also senatorial, House of Representatives and the state assembly. We must all go out and we must not allow the opposition to return.”

In Ogun West, one of the leaders of the party, Alhaji Raheem Ajayi, who spoke with journalists at Imasayi ward in the Yewa North local government area of the state also commended the peaceful conduct of the exercise.

Elder Ajayi explained that members of the party cast all the 596 votes in the ward for Buhari as the APC presidential candidate.
