The United Nations Population Fund (UNIFPA) in collaboration with Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), Mubi Branch and Adamawa State University (ADSU) Mubi have partnered to improve access to justice for sexual and gender based violence survivors. To this end, the organisations have organised a one-day seminar tagged: “Sustainable Development Goals,” which had in attendance members of the NBA, NGOs, security operatives as well as religious and traditional leaders. The chairman, Mubi Branch of NBA, Mohammed MD Mahmud said the cases of gender base violence are rising on a daily basis.

While calling for prompt intervention by authorities concerned, Mahmud thanked UNFPA for supporting survivors of gender violence adding that it will go a long way in reducing the cases of sexual and gender based violence in Adamawa State. Also speaking, the regional programme officer of UNFPA, Doctor Danladi Idrisa Saleh said the seminar was to intimate the stakeholders on the raising cases of sexual and gender based violence in the society and the need to intervene. Idrisa called on parents, religious and traditional leaders to help in transforming the society adding that it can only be achieved if they mold the character of their children. Acting vice chancellor, Adamawa State University Mubi, Prof Kaletapwa George Farauta who was represented by the Dean, Faculty Of Social and Managerial Sciences, Dr S.T. Umar, urged the participants to make good use of the knowledge they have acquired.
