A businessman, Olusegun Oguntoyinbo, of Eruda area, llorin, Kwara State, has appeared before an llorin Magistrates’ Court for stealing a vehicle.
The 30-year-old businessman was accused of stealing a Honda Accord car belonging to one Salman Tahir of No 1, Aiyeloro street, Kulende, Ilorin.
The accused was brought before the court on a one-count charge of theft, contrary to Section 287 of Penal Code Law.
The victim had on July 10, reported at Divisional Police Headquarters, Kulende, Ilorin that his Honda Accord car valued at N500,000, was stolen at his car stand at Sekinat Motors, Sango, Ilorin and that he strongly suspected the accused.
According to the Police First Information Report (FIR), during the course of investigation at the Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department, Ilorin, it was revealed that the accused was sighted around the vehicle on the day of the incident.
The prosecutor, Inspector Malik Abulrasheed, informed the court that investigation into the case was still in progress and urged the court not to grant the accused bail.
The defence counsel, Mr Ashaolu, urged the court to grant bail to the accused pending the outcome of investigation.
He said that the accused would not jump bail and would provide reliable people to stand as sureties.
The Judge, Mrs BA Baraje, upheld the submission of the defence and released the accused on bail with sum of N300,000 and two sureties in like sum.
