CCNS Felicitates With POWA At Eve Of Its New Dawn

The Coalition of Concerned Nigerian Students is exceedingly pleased to herald the eve of a new era for the Police Officers’ Wives Association (POWA), with the anticipated investiture in the coming days of Hajia Asta Ibrahim Idris Kpotun as the new substantive National President of the massive organisation.

Considering the enormous responsibilities that POWA is saddled with, as the umbrella body for wives of members of the largest single organisation in Nigeria-the Nigeria Police; coupled with the fact that POWA’s purview of activities encompasses the children, orphans and other dependents of police officers, it is very imperative for POWA to be steered by the steady, trusted and experienced hands of someone like Hajia Asta Kpotun, who has amassed significant experience over the years as a dedicated and loyal wife, a loving and caring mother, a seasoned administrator and importantly, a retired Senior Police Officer herself.

Speaking on the issue, Comrade Omoba Michael, President, Coalition of Concerned Nigerian Students (CCNS) says CCNS is particularly excited about the current development because aside being the wife of the current cerebral and swashbuckling Inspector General of Police, “Hajia Asta Kpotun is also the revered Matron of our organisation, an honour we conferred on her much earlier, in recognition and profound appreciation of her immense generosity, rare affability, profound empathy for the poor and the vulnerable in the society, as well as her deep affection for the youth and children.

“Therefore we have no glimmer of doubt that POWA will be elevated to greater heights under her tenure as its National President, even as we brace up to mobilize other vibrant youth and student organizations across Nigeria, to join hands in staunch solidarity with Hajia Asta Kpotun, in her bid to unveil a rebranded and refocused POWA.

It is instructive to state that the perennial challenge of advancing the deserved welfare of the widows/widowers and orphans of deceased or retired police officers, which is one of the cardinal thrusts of POWA, will soon become a thing of the past under the visionary leadership of Hajia Asta Kpotun. We are also confident that the programmes and policies that will be reeled out under Hajia Asta Kpotun’s tenure will address probing challenges like drug abuse and drug addiction among the youths, prostitution and human trafficking, poor physical hygiene within and around police barracks, violence and a plethora of other social vices among young people living both within and outside police barracks formations across the country.

“We also wish to use this medium to assure our dear mother and committed Matron, Hajia Asta Kpotun that we, like the millions of her children whom she has impacted positively in the past, are solidly behind her as she takes the historic step to ascend to the leadership of POWA. Her current position affords us a unique opportunity to express traces of our heartfelt appreciation to her for her previous sacrifices to us, in terms of her priceless moral and financial support. She has truly earned our loyalty, and she can rest assured that we will be there to offer her our time, strength and resources to ensure the success of her administration at POWA.

” Finally, on behalf of the teeming members of the Coalition of Concerned Nigerian Students (CCNS) and our affiliated organizations, we wish to congratulate our Matron, Hajia Asta Ibrahim Idris Kpotun in advance, on her ascension to the headship of POWA and wish her the most successful tenure in office,” he explained.
