Former national publicity secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Bolaji Abdullahi, yesterday debunked insinuations that Senate president Bukola Saraki betrayed him in the just concluded governorship primary election in Kwara State. Abdullahi who was perceived as a front-runner for the Kwara PDP governorship race withdrew from the primary election few hours to the poll that saw Razak Atunwa emerged flag bearer.
Following his withdrawal, there were rumours that the Senate president abandoned him. But in a statement he personally signed, Abdullahi noted that interpreting what happened as betrayal was not correct. He said, “My leader, Dr. Bukola Saraki, did not betray me. While the outcome of the primaries may have been disappointing, I have accepted it as the will of Almighty Allah who alone gives power. “I want to thank all those who have expressed concerns for me. I am humbled and flattered by your support,” he added. Abdullahi further insisted that whatever sacrifices he has made in the past were based on personal principles and not dependent on expectations of any reward, even as he reaffirmed his loyalty to the Saraki political dynasty.
