The Nigerian Institute of Architects (NIA) has urged its members to continue to adhere to quality services in order to attain excellence in creative management of the physical environment.

The NIA disclosed this at its recently held annual 4th Distinguished Lecture Tagged: Beyond Simple Line: Presentation Of Nearly 5 Decades Of Architectural Practices In Nigeria. According to NIA, the Distinguished Lecture series was borne out of great commitment of the institute to debate on key issues affecting the nation’s built environment and proffer workable and sustainable solutions that will enhance the environment, create national identity, develop human capacity and address the alarming unemployment.

The institute said the high profile annual lecture attended by the past presidents of the NIA aims to project architectural perspectives of critical local national and international issues and challenges, promote advocacies that project architecture and architects and create requisite rapport with policy makers, patrons of architecture, celebrate the institute’s collective history and encourage necessary bonding across generations.

Speaking at the well-attended lecture, Arc Gabriel Yakubu Aduku, the 14th president of the Institute, while presenting a book titled Beyond Simple Line of nearly five decades of architectural practice in Nigeria, said the architectural practice has witnessed series of absurdity in Nigeria over the years.

ARC Gabriel Aduku also said the general understanding of the practice of architecture are numerous that they are far beyond the simple lines. The trend in professional philosophical evolution of architectural practice has to be a major factor in Nigeria.

Also speaking at the lecture, president of NIA, Arc Njoku Festus Adibe in his welcome address, acknowledged the 2018 4th distinguished lecturer as a diligent worker who have over the years in the profession been involved in many landmark projects in the country.
