Chairman of the House of Representatives Committee on Telecommunications, Hon Saheed Akinade-Fijabi has secured nomination of the All Progressives Congress (APC) to re-contest in the forthcoming general election. Akinade-Fijabi who represents Ibadan South west/ North west federal constituency of Oyo state won the party’s primary in a fierce contest with his closest opponent, Mr. Rotimi Ajanaku. While Akinade-Fijabi polled a total votes of 279, Ajanaku polled 259.Other aspirants who lost the primary election include a former member of the House and daughter of 2nd Republic Governor of the state, Chief Omololu Olunloyo, Hon. Folake Olunloyo-Oshinowo, Yinka Gbolahan, Abiodun Ikumogunniyi and Kehinde Subair.
Some party leaders had pleaded with other aspirants to step-down for Akinade-Fijabi because of his loyalty to the party, experience and ranking in the Green Chamber. While Olunloyo-Oshinowo Ikumogunniyi and Subair agreed with the party leaders, the duo of Gbolahan and Ajanaju insisted on the contest. Meanwhile, the Fijabi Campaign Team in a statement signed by Mrs. Adesope Adebukola Tosin expressed gratitude to leaders, elders and party loyalists for making the right choice in the primary election. “We want to appreciate our amiable Governor Abiola Ajimobi for his exemplary leadership to navigate our great party to a greater heights. Kudos to the security men who ensured that the process was devoid of crisis despite attempt to flutter the exercise. We also appreciate the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) who monitored the Election process. “We appreciate other aspirants who participated in the primary election, we believe Hon. Saheed Akinade-Fijabi’s victory is for the party and everyone in Ibadan as a whole. The primary election is over let’s unite and work together for the success of the party in the forthcoming general Election in 2019,” the statement reads in part.
