Gombe Bulls Shock Pillars To Reach Kwese Basketball League Final



The Gombe Bulls Basketball Club of Gombe are through to the final of the 2018 Kwese Premier Basketball League Final 8 holding at the Indoor Sports Hall of Sani Abacha Stadium in Kano.

The team defeated defending champions, Kano Pillars 66-63 points in the first semifinal match, yesterday, to reach the final for the second time in a row.

Gombe Bulls, who had lost to Kano Pillars in the final of the last year edition, played with a lot of determination to rattle the former champions.

Coach Abdulrahman Mohammed-led boys lost the first and second quarters 20-18 and 33-31 to Pillars respectively but come out strong to draw the third quarter 45-45, before overtaken their illustrious Northern rivals in the last quarter with 66-63 points. Wisdom Anyoaha scored the highest points of the game. He scored 15 points and 5 rebound to help Gombe Bulls win the match and continental ticket to represent Nigeria in next year FIBA-Africa club Championship.

Aside Wisdom Anyoaha, Abdulwahab Yakubu, Kator Gat, Chibuzo Njoku and and Ibe Agu were all impressive for Gombe Bulls wih exceptional performances that ensured Kano Pillars never had a chance to play their kind of game.

An elated Coach Abdulraman Mohammed told LEADERSHIP Sports after the match that it feels great to be in the final and vowed to win the N20m cash prize and the trophy for the people of Gombe State.

”We had our game plans and all we needed to do was keep our focus and continue the way we began.

”We did not play with pressure, we were confident from the onset that we were going to achieve this and we are happy to do that in the end.

”The next thing for us is to prepare final and win the cup for the people Gombe State, particularly the state governor, Ibrahim Dankwambo who has been very supportive of the team.
