Cross River factional group for the governing All Progressives Party
(APC) yesterday took to the streets of Calabar, metropolis calling for protesting over the primaries in the state and also called for the resignation and removal of party National Chairman, Comrade Adams Oshiomhole by the leadership of the party.
The groups’ grievances and accusation was that Oshiomhole had refused to give recognition to the Minister for Niger Delta Affairs, Usani Usani, as the authentic APC flag bearer for the Cross River State 2019 governorship election despite a court order to that effect.
A chieftain of the party who claimed to be a spokesman for the aggrieved group, Comrade Paschal King accused the national secretariat of the party of being unfair to their candidate who the protesters claimed was supposed to be the authentic APC flag bearer in the state before the victory was upturned in favor of another un-authentic candidate.
The crowd stated that all that they are seeking for is to get the Minister for Niger Delta Affairs installed as authentic flag bearer for the party in the state for the interest of peace.
The protesters regretted the action of the National Chairman and said,
“If the national party chairman is not call to order he is going to
destroy the party”.
Paschal said, “We are in the street to protest the impunity, injustice and total and blatant refusal to give respect to the court ruling by Comrade Adams Oshiomole and his cohorts”.
“Oshiomhole’s attitude is becoming unbearable in recent times. His
attitude has made us to understand that the former national chairman
Chief John Oyegun was truly a saint.
We are out to the street to show to the world and to the national
leadership of the party about our anger over what is described as the
comrade Adam Oshiomhole’s impunity which if not check will destroy the party.
“We call on all well meaningful crossriverians to rise up and tell
Oshiomhole that he cannot fold our hands to watch him destroy APC,
Cross River State is Usani and no one eles.
Usani is our leader; with Usani the interest of the common man is protected.
“All we are saying is that Comrade Adams Oshiomhole should be called to order. For he himself is a beneficiary of court order. Without the court nothing would have made him become a governor of Edo state. So therefore he must and has to respect to court order.
“Oshiomhole’s refusal to obey court order is an affront on the integrity of our court. I therefore call on the judiciary to stand up otherwise Oshiomhole is going to show bad precedence to Nigerian who may want to follow suit.
“The national party chairman must leave us alone, otherwise, he would
come to Cross River and walk alone because the people are angry and
they have spoken that they want Usani.
Also speaking, another chieftain of the party, Elder Obina Okpa who
spoke on the matter started that the protest was a way of expressing their anger about the unfair treatment meted on their candidate during the just concluded party primaries in the state.
“The protest is a clear indication that Oshiomole will toy with the
re-election of Mr. President.
“We say capital no to impunity of whatever nature Impunity as no one is above the law. We called on Comrade Adams Oshiomole to act within the confines so that the party will not tear apart.
“Nigeria is a democratic nation and we expect him to function within the orbit of the law of the land. We cannot be subverted on
We are solidly behind Pastor Usani Uguru Usani. He is the leader of
our party. He is the governorship candidate for our great party and
the man who has built this party in the state. We cannot allow some
group of persons sent on secondment from the other side to come and hijack this party.
These individuals were part of the destruction of Cross River State
since 1999 and now they are coming here to tell us they believe in the change. They are not part of the change.
The only one that can change the mess on-going in Cross River State
for now is Pastor Usani and no one eles. Usani’s supporter said,
